Hit the ground running and keep moving. Time is limited so make life what you want it to be.
Tim Connon used to work as a dishwasher and housemen for hotels and restaurants. He quickly began to realize that based on the salary he had and the hours he was scheduled to work, there was no way to really make a good living in his 9 – 5 world. This when he began to learn about the high level of income and freedom being in sales offered. Insurance sales offered all of the flexibility he wanted with a high level of commission for him to have a great income.
“The only solution I saw before me was in sales my father had been in sales since I was young. He used to sell security systems then later transitioned into life insurance sales. When I was young I would go with him and knock on doors in neighbors to pitch security systems to people. I memorized his pitch at the door and he sold a lot of systems because of me. His profession provided our family with an abundance of nice things. We were able to take family trips and had very nice Christmases with a lot of presents. My Dad was successful in sales. I knew that if I wanted to provide my family with this type of lifestyle I would have to make a change.”
The alternative was to hope and pray for a promotion that would likely never come. Once Tim got into the field he quickly became a top producer and started his own company ParamountQuote Insurance Advisors.
Covid = Remote
While Tim might have escaped the 9 to 5, he still had a brick and mortar presence. Covid changed things to more of a hybrid model. So some staff were in the office and others were working remote. Covid actually helped increase insurance sales. It took Tim’s team about 3 months to work out the remote work details, but then they got on track. “Now I’m able to spend time with my family whenever I want. I set my own hours so I can always adjust to someone’s schedule. I have the time to take off work whenever I want. If my wife or family needs me for any type of emotional reasons or emergencies there is nothing holding me back.”
Biggest Lessons
Since being in business, Tim made a few bad investments, both time and money. He worked with marketing groups that over charged him and other agencies that did not bring value to his time or money. “The biggest mistakes I made along the way was not listening to my mentor and implementing the things he was telling me right away. There were times I thought I knew better than the mentor that taught me and as a result I lost money on investments and things became difficult.”
Tim is a big believer in having a mentor. It doesn’t have to be a direct mentor, but following a system from someone in your industry. “You can easily buy a system or model that someone else implemented in their business that you can then duplicate for yourself instead of reinventing the wheel. This will allow anyone to take off quickly in their business now following that first tip is also the second tip. Never give up as cliché as it sounds it is an absolute truth. Business is hard and there will be times when you want to quit but if you don’t things will level out and you will be in a place of success as long as you stick to it.”
