Well over 20 years ago Miriam Silverberg was a very well-paid concierge at a large, multi-national trading company. Everything was great except it was a job and she wanted to be my own boss. So, Miriam decided to open her own boutique publicity agency. She had no experience in publicity. All she had was the desire, enormous common sense and the emotional support of her father who had always been his own boss.
Going Solo
She established Miriam Silverberg Associates, one of the City’s top publicity firms. Business Builders by Publicity, Miriam Silverberg Associates has worked with top restaurants (La Cote Basque), the arts (NYC Ballet), authors, beauty professionals, fashion designers and retailers and medical professionals. Listed in Who’s Who of American Women, I have lectured extensively on how to create publicity. My father told me that the saddest words in the English language are it might have been and he didn’t want me wondering 15 years later whether I might have been successful if I had gone into business for myself. He assured me I wouldn’t starve because he wouldn’t let me, and I didn’t! I am very grateful for my father’s support and very happy I went into business because today I am very successful. I could never go back to 9 to 5. Actually today I work 24/7 but I don’t mind because it’s mine.
