Ashley Patrick was a police officer for 10 years, 7 of those years as a detective. She primarily worked sex crimes and the last 2 years she worked domestic violence cases as well. It was an incredibly stressful time, for many different reasons. Including a nationwide change in perception of law enforcement all the way down to a change in leadership within her department. Ashley decided she needed a change and started a blog to help others pay off their debt so they too can live the life they want. A year after starting her blog, Ashley and her husband had their third child and decided it was best for her to stay home and work on her business. “I decided to stay at home and work for myself. I no longer wanted to worry about being on call and having to go work the most unimaginable crime scenes”.
Paying off Debt
Before leaving the police force, Ashley and her husband paid off all of their debt except the mortgage. They paid off $45,000 in just 17 months. Because they did this, Ashley was able to afford to stay at home. Today Ashley is a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach and owner of Budgets Made Easy. Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover was the catalyst to being able to afford leaving her 9 to 5 job. Today, Ashley helps families eliminate debt using simple strategies so they can stress less and live the life they want. “I went from arresting criminals to freeing families from debt! “
Ashley saw the need for financial coaching and guidance after they paid off their debt. Numerous people saw their success and wanted to know how to do it also. As part of her blog, Ashley created the Ultimate Budget Workbook to help people pay off their debts too. “You want to pay off your debts so you can live the life you want! This is imperative to having the freedom and living how you want without someone else controlling your life. “
Running the Business
It hasn’t always been an easy road. Ashley did not invest money in her business that she should have right away in order to grow faster. “I bought things that didn’t help my business grow as I thought they would. I should have found a business coach sooner that could have helped me from the beginning. ” Having three kids at home with school and activities is its own challenge. “It’s hard to find pockets of time to work on my business.”
Still the challenges are outweighed by the benefits. “I love having my own schedule so I don’t have to get up early and sit in traffic. I don’t have to take call and stress about the next child death or sex crime that I will have to investigate. ” Instead Ashley can focus on growing her business and adding new projects. She is currently working on a video course on budgeting.
