There are more than a few books out there that tell you how to escape the 9 to 5. But there aren’t that many that really talk about life once you get there. 20 years ago Peter Mayle sort of did that by accident. He and his wife retired from the hustle and bustle of London to the French countryside. The plan was to write a novel in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Between the joys of renovating a house, colorful neighbors and the local animal population, the writing took on a different tone. A year later, a best selling book and the makings of a BBC mini-series had made it’s way to paper.
